Crete is divided in to four prefectures. From west to east we have Chania, Rethimno, Heraklio and Lasithi.

The region of Chania, is dominated by the impressive White Mountains (48 summits over 2000 meters) and its famous National Park of Samaria, which occupy the largest part of the region. The largest and most densely populated region on the island of Crete is Heraklion.
