Frequently Asked Questions

Which sea kayaking trip should I choose as a beginner?

For most beginners, the best choice is the Sfakia-Loutro day trip from Ilingas Beach, because this part of the south coast is usually the most sheltered and scenic.

If you want a shorter and more relaxed option, choose the Sunset Kayak Trip (June–mid-September). If you are unsure, read our guide on how to choose the right sea kayaking day trip in Crete.

What should I bring for a guided day trip?

Bring about 1.5 liters of water, sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, swimsuit, towel, and a light UV-protective shirt or lycra top.

Wet shoes or lightweight neoprene shoes are recommended because many beaches are pebbly. We provide paddling equipment, buoyancy aids and dry bags for small valuables.

Is sea kayaking safe for complete beginners?

Yes, when the route and weather are suitable. We choose the coastline according to wind, swell, group ability and forecast, and we give a basic paddling and safety introduction before leaving the beach.

For first-timers, tandem kayaks may be used because they are stable and easier to paddle. If conditions are not suitable, we reschedule or cancel instead of forcing the trip.

Do I need to know how to swim?

You should be comfortable in the water and able to float with a buoyancy aid. You do not need to be an athletic swimmer for beginner-friendly guided trips, but you should tell us before booking if you are nervous in the water.

What happens if the weather is bad?

Wind is the main factor for sea kayaking in Crete. We monitor the forecast and local conditions, especially the Meltemi and katabatic winds on the south coast.

If conditions are unsafe or unsuitable for the group, we may change the route, reschedule, or cancel according to our terms and conditions.

When is the best season for sea kayaking in Crete?

April to October is the main season for guided day trips. Spring and autumn often bring fewer crowds and pleasant paddling conditions.

July and August are warm but can be windy, so we choose routes carefully. Winter trips are possible for groups and experienced paddlers when the forecast allows.

Can I rent a sea kayak without a guide?

Only if you are an experienced sea kayaker. For rental, you must have strong open-water skills, a reliable Eskimo roll, and the judgment to plan a safe route independently.

Read the kayak rental guide and the rental price list before contacting us.

How do I book and pay?

Use the booking button on the trip page or contact us through the contact page. After you submit the form, we usually reply within 1-2 days.

Some trips allow online card payment. For others, payment may be made in cash on the day, depending on the activity and location.

Do you provide transfers?

Transfers depend on the route. Some trips have optional transfer service from nearby areas, while others require you to reach the meeting point by rental car, taxi, bus or your own transport.

Check the specific trip page before booking. If you are traveling from Chania to our Ilingas Beach base, public buses can work well in summer.

Can families or children join?

Families can join beginner-friendly trips when the sea and weather are suitable. Suitability depends on age, confidence in the water, body size, and the day’s conditions.

Tell us the age, height, weight and experience of younger participants before booking so we can recommend the right route and kayak setup.
